Holes in the wall, with varying levels of flooring. Also, NO furniture on the entire main level- makes eating at our house an interesting experience.
Rotten boards sticking out all over.
Disastrous kitchen- I know, I should be embarrassed, BUT: we had to empty out a bit of our storage, and it was better for us to just put it on our kitchen counters then box it all up and have no access to our food for a week (not that I can cook in this kitchen anyway...)
No diswasher- that's why there's a hole underneath the counter. That's the hardest part for Ben.
Fridge in the dining room. As of Wednesday it will be on our back deck so they can sand and stain the floors. That will be fun!
We couldn't end this post without a picture of our little gangsta Audra- she put the hat on herself and started strutting amidst the mess. I am feeling very much discombulated- I HATE that our house is virtually unlivable right now. But, Ben's parents have been AWESOME and have made our experience tolerable. They have invited us over for dinner several times, sent us home with dinner so I didn't have to try to cook or we didn't have to go out, they let Aud and me come over during the day so Audra can take a nap- they have been such a huge blessing- THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
Our contractors are awesome as well- I can't say enough great things about them. They come in and they get the job done- they're clean, they show up on time, they're honest, they find the root of our problems (they also found a leaking roof- oh, yippee!) and fix it so we don't have to worry about it. They can do it all- I HIGHLY recommend them if you need any kind of work done- call or e-mail me and I will give you their info. The company is called Capricorn Construction, and they are fantastic!
Oh I am so sorry you are living in chaos right now when you are probably feeling exhausted with life anyway. Thank goodness for helpful parents, I know I am grateful for mine who always come through in these kinds of times. The end result will be worth it, though, you'll love it. What kind of wood is that?
ReplyDeleteIt's Red Oak #1, which is supposed to be less grainy then Red Oak #2. It's the most popular of the hardwoods because it's the cheapest. We are really liking it- they are sanding it and finishing it on Thurs. and Fri. so we'll see how it looks then!
ReplyDeleteOh, Christina. Is this part of "enduring to the end"? Especially with Audra who naps still and you pregnant (and probably tired, all out of sorts, wanting your home back - that's how I'd be!). You can do this and it will be so worth it in the end. Love the pictures! It really documents the chaos! Love the gangsta look - I bet that lowered your stress level with some chuckles. She is too cute!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, Ben has been keeping me calm. Usually he is the one agitated and frustrated and in a really bad mood when things are out of sorts, but he's like, "I just know it's going to be bad, and there's nothing we can do about it." Of course, he is right- it really is a good thing we balance each other out! Yes, Audra does provide some good laughs!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like now it will be Monday or Tuesday when they are completely done- but they will be mostly done Friday, they will just need to do the finishing touches.
Ah, yes. Isn't the chaos great? It's inconvenient enough to have to tiptoe around our yard while the new lawn grows in. I am not looking forward to the process of putting tile into our kitchen. Luckily, it will go much more quickly than putting down hard wood floors, but it will still be an inconvenience for a day or two.
ReplyDeleteLook at it this way: at least you get to enjoy these improvements to your house once they are all done. Lisa and I have to immediately leave once everything is fixed up in our place.
