What I Really, Really Want

This morning as I was getting ready I had the customary thoughts: Please, Audra, just give me 2 minutes! Just 2 minutes to put my make-up on! Claire, please sleep for 10 more minutes. Just 10 more minutes!

And then I realized: Those are just fleeting whims. This is what I really, really, really want:

1. When I say, "deal with it"- I want the person I am talking to to actually deal with it.

Example 1:
Ben comes home from work and I say, "I am too tired to make dinner. Deal with it!"

Ben answers: "I completely understand- you work so hard all day long. You deserve a break. And besides, I have a chicken parmesan recipe I have just been dying to make!"

Example 2:
Audra says, "please come play."

I say, "Mommy is tired. Deal with it."

Audra says, "You do seem a little tired. I am sorry to have bothered you. I will go downstairs and play quietly and safely for 90 minutes while you go upstairs and take a nap. Oh, and I love you!"

2. I want a standing ovation every time I clean the toilet

3. I want Ben to come home and say, "I'm not hungry tonight. Let's just skip dinner." (I don't know about you, but my family likes to eat dinner every night- it is so annoying!)

4. I want a stunt double to change all poopy diapers, clean up all vomit, and give me a nice massage from time to time.

5. I want to be able to type an entire blog post with BOTH hands.

6. I want Fruit Roll-ups to actually have FRUIT in them, not just "corn syrup" and "dried corn syrup" (yes, those are both printed on the box).

7. I want Audra's poopy diapers to smell like roses

8. I want to take a nice, long hot bubble bath without the water heater going out or a screaming child interrupting my relaxation

9. I want to understand what is going on with Lost

10. I want to lose 20 pounds without doing anything annoying like exercising or dieting

Is this too much to ask???

  1. Great list, some of those might make it onto my list too, if I ever had time to write them down! :)

  2. Oh Christina! I would think that after all your practice, you could scrub your own toilets with your eyes closed! I really don't mind that job. But I hate doing the dishes.

  3. Wow, you and are must being having the same day. I even called Eric to vent my frustrations to him- just so he knew how tired I was and wanting some time to myself!
Now we'll see if it actually happens. Life with little ones never slows, does it? And it can be SO exhausting!
If you figure out how to loose the 20 extra pounds without doing anything, please fill me in! :)

  4. Hahahahahahaha...I'm just laughing because you know how my last couple of weeks have been. Last night when I was so tired I wasn't even capable of lactation (TMI? Sorry), I had this fleeting thought - could I just get up and leave for a little while? Of course not, but sometimes it is just SO hard.
The one thing I can check off your list (if it was my list) is that I am married to the kind of guy who actually sometimes asks me NOT to make dinner because he isn't hungry or just wants to aimlessly search the fridge for himself (and I am not a bad cook). Oh, and I've given up on make-up except for Sundays. I'm lucky to get my hair dried about 3 days a week.
But yah, I could seriously use an entire day off. What I would do with it, I have no idea, but it sounds nice.

  5. This is very funny. I am laughing. You missed one thing. I want to remember what I was JUST doing. I can't seem to remember that anymore.

  6. It is not too much to ask! I want almost every single one of those things too. Plus some (actually, I DON'T make dinner every night and they do deal with it, and I also don't clean much either, and everyone survives - oh, and I NEVER wear makeup and my husband still likes me). But what I really want is a big one, actually: I want my baby to be whole again. Not in pain, and not uncomfortable, and to be able to show us she is happy. There are very few things I wouldn't give for this. Very very VERY few. But, since that's not going to happen - what I really want is sleep. A full night. More than one night a week, preferably, since this probably isn't getting better anytime soon!

  7. Amen to all of this!! I type this as I finally got James to bed with his croupy cough ringing down the hall and Jay at his basketball game at church. Jay says he will take the boy on Saturday out to the Arlington Eagle festival if he is better leaving me a morning to myself. Oh how I pray this will pan out!Lost...I know right?!

  8. Ditto to it all! There's never enough time in the day and not enough thanks, in my opinion.

  9. I found fruit roll-ups that are made from actual fruit at Costco a couple of days ago, and thought of this post. I took a couple of pictures and posted them on your Facebook wall. Enjoy!
