Family Field Trip

It has taken awhile, but we are finally at a point where we feel like we can go to public places as a family- outside of the park or Chuck E. Cheese, of course.
-
One of our first family outings not to a kidzone:
-
BYU vs. Air Force Game in Colorado Springs
(also the furthest we have driven as a family since Claire was born).

The drive should have taken us an hour. So, we left 2 hours early- with it being Sept. 11 and the game at the Air Force Academy, I thought for sure they would have a really cool pre-game show and they would definitley have a fly-over and I didn't want to miss it.
-

I was right about the fly-over. It occured just before kickoff. While we were in our car.
-
It took us over TWO hours to get to the game! We were on the freeway literally going an average of 3 mph or less. We ended up being 15 minutes late to the game. It is definitely debateable if we will go again because of that torture.
-
So, we get to the game and Audra spotted it. Within 10 seconds she saw it. I have never known anybody sitting so high in the bleachers to see it so fast.
-
What did she?

Down 100 stairs and in the furthest stretches, she spotted the kidzone. I should have known we would be dealing with bouncy rides even at a football game.
-
So, we went down and spent 45 minutes waiting in line for her to go on two rides. We missed the entire third quarter and all of the halftime show.
-
But, tell me honestly: could you have turned down this face? Well, we couldn't either.

She made a new best friend on the swings while I stewed over missing my BYU game.

Finally, it was time to go back and watch the game.

Thankfully, we were armed with lots of illegal fishy crackers- don't tell anybody we snuck them in.

In the end, it wasn't much of a game. BYU lost 35-14 in very unimpressive fashion. But, it was a successful family adventure- we might even do it again someday. Maybe.

  1. I am glad you had a good time. The more you get out, the better kids understand how to behave on those types of trips. It takes some planning, but you can do it!
