Setting It Up

Every year, we wonder why on earth we do it. But, every year we pull out the decorations and decorate/torture ourselves for what will certainly be another wonderful Christmas.

Seriously- it is A LOT of work! And, we didn't even put up half the decorations- the half that scream, "Claire- come break me!" we left in the boxes.

I am glad they are up. I am glad we are done putting them up. I am not looking forward to putting them back away. Or to putting them back up next year.

The girls, however, loved helping us.

But, Claire eventually got banished (don't worry, as you can see- she had a roll, so she was perfectly happy):

Both girls are completely enthralled by the train:

A note on this train: I bought it my freshman year of college- 1997. Every year, we say, "this is the last year for this poor train. Next year we will get a new one." But, every year we push it to it's limits again. The engine can no longer pull any cars except the one with the batteries. It can not go around the entire track even once without falling off. But, it's still chugging along like the Little Engine That Could, so we continue to use it. And, the girls continue to LOVE it.

  1. Yeah for decorating! I'm impressed you are done. I'm not even close. :) You had a train? I don't remember a train... Love your tree. It sure is pretty!

  2. I bought the train for my parents and they kept it at their house. Then when I got married I inherited it back. Maybe this will be the last year before we cave and get a new one?

  3. Too bad you don't live closer, I have a train that Nathan acquired last year for Christmas that is collecting dust in a box in the closet - it would be perfect - I think it is just like the one you bought way back then (I remember that Christmas). If you ever come back into town and you remember, I'd be happy to just give it to you. I'm sure we'll acquire plenty more trains in the future. :)

  4. Your tree looks beautiful! I feel the same way about decorating for Christmas. I don't like getting everything out because I know I'll just have to put it all away in a month or so. Since we're going away for Christmas, we're not dragging out the decorations this year.

  5. Your tree turned out gorgeous! We're doing ours tonight. It is a lot of work, but it's totally worth it to see the excitement on Spencer's face. We might have to get a train like that someday. Spencer would be in heaven!

  6. When we put up our old tree it looked incredibly dinky with the vaulted ceiling, so we splurged on this one. Plus, it's pre lighted which has been wonderful. We like it, even if it isn't a nice, real, fresh one. It's easier- what can I say?
