Tyler Perry

I happen to be a big fan of Tyler Perry, even though I am white. I haven't seen any of his plays, but we have watched several of his movies. My favorite was Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Ben's favorite was Madea's Family Reunion. Tyler Perry happens to be an amazing person, for those of you who don't know his story. His dad was abusive and 12 years ago he was literally living on the streets. Now, he is a multi-millionaire, so it is a total rags to riches, overcoming hardships story. But, the best thing is that he has huge faith in God, and in all of his movies he shows that faith. He writes incredibly strong female characters, and he attributes that to his mom who was the one who fought for him and held him up when he had such a horrible father. I think his stories have a lot of depth, and they are also really funny.
Meet the Browns is the movie we watched this last weekend, and I really liked it. Ben doesn't like his movies so much, because they really are chick-flicks in the sense that often there are dead-beat guys, but amazing women who overcome all. They are very emotional and sentimental, and I often cry while watching. But, if you haven't seen his movies yet, I would recommend at least trying one out to see what you think- let me know if you like them:)

  1. Wow, I'm not sure if we can be friends anymore. Just kidding :)

Sorry, I'm not a fan of Tyler Perry's work. It was interesting to learn about his background, though. Thanks!

  2. Hey, no worries- Ben is not the biggest fan, either. I am pretty sure we can still be friends- we just won't invite you over for movie night when we have one of his movies:)

  3. I haven't seen any of his work but you have peaked my interest. I am more of the English humor camp but I should investigate. By the way, thanks for having a safe political forum. I just added to the Palin comments and was so surprised on how much I wrote! It was really fun to get that out into the blogosphere. I even copied it onto my blog to share. Remember when we went to see Napoleon Dynamite in Seattle before it got huge publicity? Good times.

  4. I haven't seen any of the tyler perry movies yet. maybe i should watch one and let you know what i think. :) i bet that corn maze was fun. I probably would have gotten way lost and frustrated. then I would have gotten mad that i was lost and couldn't find curt. :) that sounds like a reoccurring dream i always have. hmm. we shouldn't definitely go out to cheesecake factory for lunch sometime! that would be fun! - i was going to call you to go swimming today, but i called the office this morning and the pool is closed. i'm very sad about that. it means summer is over and snow will be here before we know it. i guess we'll be eating at cheesecake factory. :)

  6. We like Tyler Perry, too! I first saw him in Diary of a Mad Black Woman. We just watched that one where he was a single dad, that was serious but good. The Medea character is hilarious!
